Owner of Jell Creative, a communications and design firm; former editor of Digital Chicago and Digital New York magazines; and author of three books on digital design.

Melissa Taylor

Producer and partner of Rivet Media, a film and video production firm; and partner of Tambourine Pictures, a developer and producer of children’s television.

Why we’re doing this

It’s time to stir things up — to make the defeat of George W. Bush a priority. We want as many people as possible, regardless of their specific agendas and allegiances, to proudly wear their concerns and convictions.

To this end, we have designed our shirts and buttons to be both provocative and tasteful. No over-the-top slogans, caricatures, cartoons, or other garish elements. Instead, we focus on simple, belief-driven messages and graphics, stripped down to their essentials.

Our goals are three-fold:

1. Create items that will appeal to a very broad range of thoughtful and left-leaning voters (and, hopefully, potential voters!);
2. Encourage discussion, using slogans that entice people to talk and compare their views, priorities, and strategies in their everyday encounters; and
3. Generate donations from our proceeds ($1 from every shirt ordered) to the buyer’s choice of The ACLU Foundation or MoveOn.

We believe that no one who is concerned about the current political crisis can afford to remain demure; it’s time to engage in frank discussion with co-workers, neighbors, family, and friends. It’s time to make national politics and control of the presidency a central issue in all of our lives. It is time to make a stand — to show the people in our lives and our environs how important the next election will be.
